Sleep. Wonderful. Luxurious. Sleep.

For quite some time, I’ve struggled with poor sleep. I’ve known for a while that my alcohol consumption was having a negative impact on my sleep, but to be honest I underestimated how much of an impact it had been. It was actually after a particularly poor night sleep when I decided to take this 30 day break.

I’d woken up around 3:30 that night and never really got back to sleep. I’d moved to the spare bed and tossed and turned until I finally got up around 6:30. During that night, I spent a lot of time thinking about the fact that the reason I was suffering from insomnia was because of the bourbon I’d drank that evening. At 7:46 AM last Tuesday I made the decision to go all in on this 30 day alcohol fast.

The first few nights were not much better, but two of those nights I was dealing with migraines. Friday night, I had a pretty good night sleep, but last night was simply amazing. I don’t recall sleeping as soundly as I did last night in a LONG time. I’m sure I woke up once or twice, that’s natural, but I have no recollection of waking at all.

When I did wake completely this morning, I felt well rested and ready for the day. This is the way to wake up. This is a good way to live.
