October 20th sounded so far away back in August when I hatched the plan to ride an unsupported century with Matt and Dave outside of Philadelphia. We’d just come off our MS ride and the discussion over email was focused around having a goal to keep us motivated to stay on the bike as much as possible. It was a good thought.
Life got in the way.
From August 15th until September 18th, I did not get on the bike. Since then, I’ve been on the bike 9 times and ridden 148 miles. I’m out of my game. I’m feeling it after a 21 mile ride this afternoon. My thighs are burning.
This is going to be harder than I thought it would back in August.
In The War of Art, Stephen Pressfield writes: “Most of us have two lives. The life we live, and the unlived life within us. Between the two stands Resistance.”
I’m not gonna let resistance keep me from my goal.
I’m riding 100 miles this weekend. In one day. Under my own power.
I am the motor.
