Despite the discouragement afforded by Weather Underground on the iPhone at 6:30 I got up to go for a ride today. WU said it was 49F and raining. In the pre-sunrise light it was difficult to discern whether this was true or not. There was rain on the window though.
Amazingly, I was able to find most of my colder weather riding gear without much trouble, (I guess Mrs. TKD is right about putting things in their place) and I was out the door and on the bike by 7:02 – one minute after sunrise officially.
I’d forgotten just how cold 49F feels when you first start out on a bike, but within a few minutes, I’d generated enough heat to be comfortable. Briefly, I thought that I may have overdressed, but when I turned into the wind I was glad I hadn’t skimped on the extra layer, full finger gloves, and head beanie.
It wasn’t much of a ride. No new sights. No new roads. Just a 14.5mph average down the trail and back. But it was a great way to start the week.
