Spontaneity

Steady.org is brought to you today by the word “Spontaneity.”

Over the weekend, I had a network change that went horribly long after some unforeseen problems.  A change that should have taken about 5 hours ended up taking all of 9 hours.  I was feeling sorry for myself for a number of reasons, not the least of which was that Mrs. TKD and Mr. Grey had gone to the beach and I was stuck working.  In addition, many of my good friends were at Penn State for the game.  So, when I wrapped up the change at 4:30 I was pretty much set to just chill out, at home, by myself.

Then the phone rang, it was Mrs. TKD.  “We’re staying at the Inn at Canal Street, why don’t you drive over and join us?”  I wasn’t sure.  “Yeah, I know, but you can wake up and see the ocean tomorrow,” she said. I told her I’d call her back after a shower and some food.  I made the decision that I’d pack my bag and head to Lewes.  It’s only a 2 hour drive from our house to Lewes.  It would do me good.  I could wake up and see the beach in the morning.

So, after working all day, without a break and with no lunch, I hit the road at about 5:00 in the Subaru.  I was raining.  I figured on a miserable drive, to be honest.  But it went by quickly, and before I knew it I was pulling into Lewes.  I love Lewes – it really is the perfect little seaside town.  Deleware has done a great job protecting the seashore.
Mrs. TKD and I went out for dinner.  Grandpa took care of Mr. Grey!  We had a great dinner at a place called Kindle, and some much needed time alone.

We got up the next morning and went to the beach adjacent to Lewes Yatch Club (where her dad was sailing).  It was raining, but it didn’t matter.  We donned our rain coats and walked up and down the sandy beach on the Deleware Bay.  Mr. Grey ran back and forth into the surf, and got his khakis soaked.

I smiled most of the weekend, after the change, and I’m still smiling today.  I’m really glad that I took the ride.
