Outstanding Weekend

This past weekend rocked. Saturday included a trip to the farmer’s market for some tomatos and some scones - I also came away with some great wax beans - breakfast on the deck on our new table an chairs (yes Home Depot did finally come thorugh) and spending nearly all day Saturday with Greyson, just hanging out in the back yard. He was playing and generally acting like an 8 month old on the blanket with us, which was very entertaining. The weather was unbelievable.

Sunday, we went to the other farmer’s market in Annapolis and got some more good veggies as well as some excellent bread. Mom and Jen came down with the girls. Frank was sick. We had a nice time without him, but I wish he’d been there. I made some phat sandwiches that were grilled on the grill (who needs a panini press?). They had turkey, bacon, sprouts, spinach, provolone, and mayo on them. I grilled them on the grill for about 5 minutes and got some nice char marks on them as well as melted the cheese. They rocked. We ate them with some gaspacho that we made with the veggies that we got at the farmer’s market.

I spent the whole weekend with no watch on. This is very liberating and I suggest you try it.

I also left the windows and sun roof open on the car all weekend, luckilly it was in the carport.

Thanks to the Family

Even though my family can get on my nerves, I’m thankful that they are still here. Our family has gradually shrunk over the past 20 years (death > reproduction) and that sucks, but we are lucky to have each other. So to my family, I’d like to say thanks for being there for me.

One great Saturday and only 386 left

Despite getting a call at 7:00 AM for some VPN/Routing issues at work, (apparently the Argentina office couldn’t route mail to Brasil or Mexico - Like I give a shit on Saturday) I had a great day yesterday. Greyson and I took off and had a bit of a boys day out, sort of. Actually, G spent the day with his Grandma, aunt and cousins and I went for a 30 mile ride with Frank.

Fifteen in, Frank’s seat exploded. He’s lucky he still has his ass. He rode the 15 back in style standing up. I would have probably collapsed, but he still kicked my newbie butt on the way back.

We rode on the NCR trail which is another old railroad bed converted into a multiuse trail. Bikes, walkers, joggers, horses. You gotta watch out for the horse shit on the trail. It is a great ride. The trail is pretty flat, though you are climbing a gradual hill going north, and it takes you through some of the most beautiful country in Maryland, IMHO. (I may be a bit biased since our grand parents lived in Sparks and the trail makes its way thorugh Sparks, Glencoe and Monkton.)

One of the best parts of the trail is that the Gunpowder river winds its way back and forth under bridges on the trail, and that there are gigantic peices of granite jutting out of the ground on the sides of the trail. This is piedmont country, the foothils of the Appalacians.

On a day after a rainstorm, like yesterday, all you can smell is the earth. It is a great smell.

Well, we had a fantastic ride (I did at least - Frank may feel differently, especially today).

386 miles till new bike.

Sunday aka Mother’s Day

Had a great day with the moms. I made Taffy Waffles and took care of Greyson in the morning. She relished the luxury of a hot cup of coffee. I made Gazpacho and grilled sandwiches for lunch and then went for a 20 mile ride with Frank.

Greyson is currently in my lap and not digging on me typing.

Saturday

Another great day. Really, today was a great day. I spent time with Greyson this morning making him laugh which totally rocks. Nothing is cooler than when your 4 month old son laughs. I made waffles for breakfast for Taffy. They was damn good. The rain stopped. Yes, the rain stopped. It had rained since Thursday night. Now, we needed the rain, so I’m not complaining, but damn it was nice to see the sun come out.

I hopped on the bike around 1:00 and rode for an hour. I still haven’t gotten a bike computer so I can’t be sure, but I clocked a similar route in the car tonight and figured I rode about 12 miles. Now three weeks ago when I went out the first time, I was in sad shape after the ride. My butt just wasn’t used to sitting in the saddle anymore. I’m happy to say that today was easy, yes easy. And I didn’t even feel it in my can.

My hands however continue to go numb while riding. I’m gonna have to find a new stem and make some geometry adjustments, I guess.

I got to try out the new helmet and gloves. I should have bought a new helmet a long time ago. Major difference in airflow between a helmet designed in 1992 and one designed in 2008. Much more comfortable ride.

Tomorrow’s Moms day. Mom and Matt will be coming down for lunch. We’re going to have Gazpacho, Salad, and Panini’s along with Strawberry Lemonade. After lunch, Frank and I are going to go for a ride. We’ll see how I do on day two.
