O Yeah…F.S.T.

Freestyle, Street, Track…Damn this was a fun bike. I set mine up with hot pink Peregrine Falcon Mag Wheels, Shimano DX Peddals (also hot pink), a hot pink layback seatpost and a DK stem…

13 more down

Got out on my ride this morning and pulled another 13 miles or so. Good ride. Cool though. A little numb in my foot toward the end.

373.5 to go.

One great Saturday and only 386 left

Despite getting a call at 7:00 AM for some VPN/Routing issues at work, (apparently the Argentina office couldn’t route mail to Brasil or Mexico - Like I give a shit on Saturday) I had a great day yesterday. Greyson and I took off and had a bit of a boys day out, sort of. Actually, G spent the day with his Grandma, aunt and cousins and I went for a 30 mile ride with Frank.

Fifteen in, Frank’s seat exploded. He’s lucky he still has his ass. He rode the 15 back in style standing up. I would have probably collapsed, but he still kicked my newbie butt on the way back.

We rode on the NCR trail which is another old railroad bed converted into a multiuse trail. Bikes, walkers, joggers, horses. You gotta watch out for the horse shit on the trail. It is a great ride. The trail is pretty flat, though you are climbing a gradual hill going north, and it takes you through some of the most beautiful country in Maryland, IMHO. (I may be a bit biased since our grand parents lived in Sparks and the trail makes its way thorugh Sparks, Glencoe and Monkton.)

One of the best parts of the trail is that the Gunpowder river winds its way back and forth under bridges on the trail, and that there are gigantic peices of granite jutting out of the ground on the sides of the trail. This is piedmont country, the foothils of the Appalacians.

On a day after a rainstorm, like yesterday, all you can smell is the earth. It is a great smell.

Well, we had a fantastic ride (I did at least - Frank may feel differently, especially today).

386 miles till new bike.

Miles till new bike, 416.5

Taffy made the mistake of agreeing that I could buy a new road bike if I road 500 miles. I told her that after today’s ride I was around 75 to 80. Tallying it up just now, I’m figuring 83.5ish since I started this year. Not bad for a previously sedentary guy in his mid 30s.

She immediately said, I’d like to change that, but I’m holding her to it.

416.5 to go…

Despite chain failure, another 20 down…

I worked in the middle of the night last night replacing firewalls in front of our e-commerce site. Switching out vendors. I expected issues, and really had none. My good friend Bill did most of the work and he did a great job, so our 4 hour window only lasted 2.5. As a result, I was able to scoot out early today, which I did.

Hopped on the ride around 2:15 and rode down to the B&A trial. I was just getting warmed up and was overtaking another rider in the heart of Severna Park, when pop/zing…my chain done broked…I was about a mile and a half from home. Fortunately, I was about 50 yards from Pedal Pushers, the local bike shop. I had absolutely no cash and no credit cards, not even my ID. They fixed me up with a replacement link on the trust that I’d stop by and give them a five spot sometime. I plan to stop by today and hook them up.

So after that brief interlude, I was back out on the trail. I rode the whole way down to the end of the trail at Boulter’s Way and then back north up to Jumper’s Hole road, where I turned around and headed home. It was a great ride.

Now, I’m off to grab a shower and head to the store and the bike shop before picking up Greyson from daycare.
