I was making my way to the beach today, when I took a second look at an old beater of a Dodge pickup.  Now this old beater is old, certainly from the late 50s if not older.  It’s paint is weathered red – dull, no shine left at all, like an old international tractor in a farmer’s field, except for the Dodge logo which is shiny new white paint, and underneath it, the quote:

so much depends upon a red wheelbarrow

Day 1: After a bad night sleep with Mr. Grey, Tropical Storm Hanna hit. Not too bad considering, but it rained pretty much all day after 12. In the morning everything seemed to be closed due to the impending doom of Hanna.

Day 2: Much better. No rain, pleanty of sun. We went to the beach at Henlopen, and Mr. Grey lasted about an hour and a half. Then we drove down the coast and ended up in Ocean City, MD. We found the old trailer where I used to go on vacation with my parents and grandparents. The seabox ain’t called the seabox, but its still there, 36 years later.

Subject says it all. I can’t wait to take some time off. Fish. Sleep. Eat good food. Fish.

There’s just something wonderful about the song “Piper” by Phish. It always makes me smile.

Okay, its been unseasonably cool for the entire month of August, so I’m not necessarily referring to the ambient temperature. I’m also not referring to the fact that the humidity has been incredibly low and comfortable, even though it has been awesome. The reason I’m noticing that fall is coming is that the light has started to fade earlier in the evening. Somehow it always seems that the darkness creeps up on us suddenly this time of year. It feels like one week its light until almost 9:30 and the next its dark at 8:00.

Officially, tomorrow, we will have less than 13 hours of daylight. Twelve hours and 59 minutes to be exact. Before you know it, we’ll be driving to and from work in the dark again.

On the positive side of the equation, college football started this past weekend. Penn State played respectably and won their game easily. Michigan lost to Utah. That makes me happier than our win, even though there will be a lot of talk about how the Big Ten is not showing strong. Its week one, people, week one.
